The youngest son of the legendary Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Antikulapo Kuti and Nigerian musician, Seun Kuti born as Oluseun Antikulapo Kuti on 11 January 1983 in Nigeria. He is an atheist and also the lead singer of his father’s former band, Egypt 80. He participated actively in the Occupy Nigeria protests against the fuel subsidy removal policy of President Goodluck Jonathan in his native Nigeria, in January 2012. The 33-years-old musician has definitely taken after his father’s political and social ethos.

1. Seun Kuti born as Oluseun Antikulapo Kuti on 11 January 1983 in Nigeria. He is an atheist.

2. His father is the legendary pioneer of the Afrobeat music genre, Fela Antikulapo Kuti.

3. At the age of 9, he expressed the wish to sing to his father and after a while later he started performing with his father and the band.

4. At the age of 14, he became the lead singer of his father’s former band, Egypt 80.

5. While in school he had to choose between a career in music and one in African football.

6. During the 1990’s, he was also often arrested and harassed alongside the founder of the Afrobeat movement.
