Cecil John Rhodes “must go”: UCT students
CAPE TOWN – University of Cape Town (UCT) has been seeing protest from students who have been calling for the removal of Cecil John Rhodes from their Campus. The protest was joined by many other organisations such as the Ses’khona Peoples Rights Movement and the African National Congress (ANC.
These organisations are saying that the process of transformation within the institutions of higher learning isn’t moving fast enough.
This is a noble and great idea to fight for the change of names. It hoped that South Africa will learn from other African countries.
Most African countries changed the names of their cities, schools etc. after independence, this didn’t “change the price of bread”.
Could these just be distractions which will lead the people to forget the real issues?
