Speaking as a guest on Madame Joyce's podcast, the reality TV star confirmed her move while discussing her aspirations and challenges in the Nigerian market.
Tacha explained her decision as a strategic move to expand her horizons while still maintaining ties to Nigeria. “With me being in the UK, I am representing Nigeria. I’ve already conquered the whole of the Nigerian market,” she said. She emphasized that relocating doesn’t mean cutting ties with Nigeria, adding, “Relocating to the UK doesn’t mean that I won’t take Naija deals. If the money is good, fine, why not?”
Challenges of the Nigerian Influencer Market
During the interview, Tacha candidly discussed the challenges she faced in the Nigerian influencer space. She revealed that the industry often fails to provide fair compensation despite its glamorous appearance. “With the influencing scene in Naija, it looks so beautiful, but behind the scenes, it’s not as beautiful because the money is shit,” she said.
Tacha highlighted an instance where she was offered six million naira (about $3,000) for a six-month deal that required her to create and post two videos each month. She expressed frustration with the undervaluation of her work, noting that such offers no longer align with her standards. “Imagine someone wanting to pay you six million for six months, and they want you to influence and post videos that need to be created o! That’s nothing in today’s economy,” she explained.
Reflecting on her early post-BBNaija days in 2019, Tacha shared how the influencer market has changed over time. “When I started getting gigs back then, the money was the same, and it made sense. At least we could book a plane ticket with it. But right now, $3,000 is nothing,” she added.
Economic Realities in Nigeria
Tacha also touched on the broader economic challenges in Nigeria, which she said affect everyone, including brands and companies. “Everyone in Nigeria is going through hard economic times. Unless you’re doing some underhand businesses, you won’t have money in excess,” she remarked. This economic reality played a significant role in her decision to seek opportunities abroad.
A New Chapter in the UK
Despite these challenges, Tacha remains optimistic about her move to the UK. She sees it as a chance to grow her brand on an international scale while continuing to represent Nigeria. Her determination to succeed and her commitment to staying true to her values reflect her resilience and ambition.
As Tacha embarks on this new chapter, her journey serves as an example of the growing trend of Nigerian influencers and creatives seeking opportunities on a global stage.
