10 Things You Didn’t Know About Vincent Enyeama

The Nigerian professional footballer, Vincent Enyeama was born on 29 August 1982 in Akwa Ibom, Nigeria. The French club LOSC Lille goalkeeper, is the most capped footballer for the Nigerian national team and unarguably the most successful Nigerian goalkeeper while ending his international career with 101 caps. There is no doubt that he is a name to be reckoned with in the world of football with his goal keeping heroics being recognized around the world.

1. Vincent Enyeama was born on 29 August 1982 in Akwa Ibom, Nigeria.

2. He was also a member of the Nigerian national team from 2002 until October 2015, serving as its captain from 2013 until his retirement from international football.

3. He was selected for the 2002 FIFA World Cup as a substitute goalkeeper for Ike Shorunmu. He made his debut for the Nigeria national football team in a match against Kenya in May 2002.

4. In his first season with Bnei Yehuda, the team qualified for the final of the Israel State Cup and achieved fourth place in the Israeli Premier League, which qualified the team for the 2006 UEFA Cup.

5. In 2007, he got signed to Hapoel Tel Aviv Football Club. He helped the club to avoid relegation and reach the state cup final. He was also awarded with the Player of the Year award during the year 2008/09.

6. On 18 August 2010 he scored his first goal of the 2010–11 season with a penalty against Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League qualifiers.

7. In June 2011 he moved to the French football club, Lille Olympique Sporting Club for an undisclosed fee on a three-year contract.

8. He made his debut on 18 October 2011 against Inter Milan in the 2012 UEFA Champions’ League group stage, where Inter managed a 1–0 victory.

9. In 2004, he was involved in a car accident in Uyo, southeast Nigeria, in which two motorcycle passengers were killed. Despite the severity of the accident, he only came out with bruises after the car accident.

10. He has been ranked the 18th best goalkeeper in the world in 2015 by United Kingdom newspaper, The Telegraph.
