Spyro Opens Up About Spending ₦15 Million Annually on Cash Gifts: “Being a Celebrity in Lagos is Hard”

Nigerian pop sensation Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, popularly known as Spyro, has opened up about the financial burden that comes with being a public figure. The Lagos-born entertainer recently shared his frustrations about the constant requests for cash from fans and acquaintances, a situation he describes as overwhelming.

In a heartfelt post, the 34-year-old revealed that he spends an average of ₦100,000 on cash gifts every time he steps out of his home. “Every day I step out of my house, I spend a minimum of 100k on givings,” he lamented. Breaking it down, Spyro noted that if he goes out three times a week, this amounts to ₦1.2 million monthly and approximately ₦15 million annually.

The musician recounted a recent encounter where a request for money led to insults after he asked the individual to wait until the next day. “It’s really hard being a celebrity in this Lagos. I told a guy I don’t have today and that I will see him next day, and he rained insults on me,” he said.

Spyro also highlighted how the expectation for financial generosity follows him everywhere—from restaurants to churches, estates, and even online platforms. He expressed concern that while people are eager to take from him, very few consider how he is faring.

Acknowledging the resilience of his fellow celebrities, Spyro concluded his message with a shoutout to his colleagues: “S/O to everyone of my colleagues out there going through this. Y’all are the real MVP’s and I CELEBRATE you.”

Spyro’s candid reflections have sparked conversations about the pressures of fame and the challenges celebrities face in balancing public expectations with their personal lives.
