Ubi Franklin Responds to Spyro’s Scam Allegations: Car Deal, 10% Commission, and More

Nigerian talent manager Ubi Franklin recently responded to claims made by singer Spyro, who accused him of scamming him by using Davido’s name. The controversy unfolded when Spyro shared on a podcast that Ubi allegedly tricked him into performing at a show in Ghana by falsely implying that Davido, the leader of the 30BG music group, was involved.

In his response, Ubi Franklin explained that Spyro had contacted him earlier in October about purchasing a car, and Ubi facilitated the deal by connecting him with the car dealer. He further clarified that he had been entitled to a 10% commission from the deal, which amounted to N10.5 million, but Spyro had attempted to negotiate a reduction in the price by offering to promote the brand instead of paying the full amount. Ubi stated that Spyro had agreed to pay him the 10% commission, which was expected to come after the car purchase was completed.

Ubi also addressed the allegations related to the Ghana show, explaining that he had arranged for Spyro and Iyanya to perform, with the pay being $5,000 (approximately N8 million). He noted that Spyro still owed him N2 million from the car deal, which he expected to be settled. Ubi defended his actions, stating that his 10% commission is standard practice for the work he does, whether it’s in music or other transactions.

The incident sparked mixed reactions from Nigerians. Some questioned the validity of Ubi’s claims, while others criticized Spyro for not honoring the agreement. A few also raised legal concerns about the ethical nature of withholding money in such circumstances. The public debate has left many divided, with some siding with Ubi, while others believe Spyro’s accusations are valid.
