Victony Opens Up About Surviving Tragic Accident, Survivor’s Guilt, and Upcoming Surgery

Nigerian singer Victony has revealed that he will undergo a fifth surgery after surviving a tragic car accident in 2021 that left him in a coma for four days. In an emotional interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Victony reflected on the life-altering incident and the challenges he has faced since.

The accident, which occurred while Victony was traveling, marked a difficult chapter in his life. Recalling the traumatic experience, the singer expressed his frustration at being forced to use a wheelchair while shooting the music video for his hit song “Holy Father.” “I think about it as a downtime in my life, and when it happened, I was frustrated because being in a wheelchair while shooting the video for Holy Father was not what I wanted to do because I don’t like it when people pity me,” he explained. However, he added that after a while, he came to terms with the situation. “I got over it, and now I live with remembering the accident.”

Victony admitted that he still experiences pain in his legs as a result of the accident and revealed that another surgery is scheduled to address the lingering effects. “Till now my legs still hurt and I’m still going to do another surgery, so now I’m living with it and I have accepted that experience. The accident has made me who I am today, it’s part of my story,” he shared. Although he acknowledged the lasting impact of the accident, Victony made it clear that he doesn’t want to be defined by it. “I don’t want to be identified with the incident, but I just want it to be a part of my story,” he said.

In addition to the physical challenges, Victony opened up about the emotional toll the accident took on him, particularly the survivor’s guilt he felt after learning of the death of a fellow passenger. He explained that he wasn’t informed about the tragic loss until weeks later, which added a heavy emotional burden to his recovery. “For some reason, I felt bad for the guy that didn’t make it, because I survived. They didn’t tell me until a few weeks later, and it took away some joy,” he admitted.

Victony described his complex emotions as he grappled with both gratitude for his survival and sorrow for the loss of the other passenger. “Even though I was awake, I was frustrated and angry yet happy that I was alive,” he said. The news of the death hit Victony hard, especially because he had shared a connection with the deceased, despite not knowing him well. “He was someone I caught a vibe with, and he was sitting very close to me. So hearing that he died was very heavy, so I had survivor’s guilt.”

Fortunately, Victony was able to work through his feelings of guilt, and he doesn’t carry the burden with him anymore. “I was able to snap out of it though, so I didn’t live with it for long,” he revealed.

Victony’s candid revelations provide a powerful look into the emotional and physical struggles he has faced in the aftermath of his life-changing accident. Through it all, he has come to embrace the journey, using his experiences to shape his story and his future. As he prepares for another surgery, fans and supporters continue to rally behind the talented artist, who has proven his resilience and strength in the face of adversity.
