Bovi Explains Decision to Enroll His Children in Boarding Schools Abroad: “I Don’t Want to Expose Them to Bullying”

Nigerian actor and comedian Bovi has shared his reasons for enrolling his children in boarding schools abroad rather than in Nigeria. In a recent interview on the Uncolored Podcast, Bovi opened up about how his personal experiences shaped his decision, particularly his concerns over bullying and the harsh realities of the Nigerian boarding school system.

Bovi revealed that his children now live in the UK, where they attend school. Initially, the decision to send his son to a foreign boarding school was accidental, but it soon became a conscious choice driven by his concerns about the Nigerian schooling system. Reflecting on his own experiences, Bovi said that attending boarding school in Nigeria had made him “street smart” but also exposed him to difficult challenges.

“I know what boarding school did for me here; it made me street smart,” he said during the interview. “But I wanted my kids to go to boarding school, but I didn’t want to put my kids in a school where a fellow student that is at least four years older would tell my child to kneel down, or fetch his water, or lay his bed, or even beat him up. I don’t want to fight another person’s kid or parents.”

Bovi’s comments highlight his strong stance against bullying and corporal punishment, both of which are often present in Nigerian boarding schools. He explained that while some people believe such experiences toughen children up, he disagrees. “Maybe I’ve always been rebellious, but many people crumble under that pressure and it affected them in real life,” he said. “I decided to not let my children be part of that system.”

Despite choosing to send his children abroad, Bovi emphasized that he makes a conscious effort to ensure they are rooted in Nigerian culture, preserving their heritage even as they receive their education overseas.

This sentiment is consistent with Bovi’s well-known advocacy against corporal punishment and any form of abuse towards children. The comedian has always been vocal about his belief in more positive and supportive methods of raising children, arguing that discipline and growth should not come at the expense of their well-being.

As a public figure, Bovi’s comments offer a glimpse into the challenges faced by parents navigating the educational system, both at home and abroad. His decision serves as a reminder of the different approaches parents take to protect and provide the best possible futures for their children.
