Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has released a new single titled Update from his highly anticipated eighth studio album, No Sign of Weakness. The track, which dropped on February 19, 2025, samples the iconic 1989 classic Back to Life by British group Soul II Soul, infusing it with Burna Boy’s signature Afro-fusion sound.
The African Giant had earlier teased Update on Instagram after wiping his feed clean—a move that signaled the arrival of a new era in his musical journey. Produced by P2J, the song features a rich African folk drum arrangement, with Burna Boy confidently asserting his dominance in the music industry, staying true to his self-assured and defiant style.
Accompanying the single is a music video directed by UAX, where Burna Boy showcases energetic performances inspired by Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti. His dance moves, coupled with the vibrant visuals, pay homage to the late icon’s influence on Afrobeat’s evolution.
Update follows Burna Boy’s previous singles Higher, which was nominated for Best African Song Performance at the 67th Grammy Awards, and Bundle By Bundle, released in December 2024.
