Spenta Speaks on His Rising Music Career and Cultural Influence

Nigerian afrobeat artist Kingsley Ifeanyi Adaoji, popularly known as Spenta, has been making significant strides in the music industry. In a recent interview, he shared insights into his fast-growing career, his influences, and his latest musical projects.

Spenta’s journey in the competitive Nigerian music scene gained momentum in 2022 when he signed a deal with AkwaAmaka Music, a label committed to fostering emerging talent. Since then, his career has been on an upward trajectory, solidifying his presence in the industry.

Influence of Gentleman Mike Ejeagha

Spenta credits his exposure to legendary Nigerian highlife musician Gentleman Mike Ejeagha as a pivotal moment in his career. His early start in the church choir nurtured his musical abilities, leading him to master multiple instruments. This skill set allowed him to collaborate with renowned artists, including Ejeagha and Ice Prince, broadening his artistic versatility.

Reflecting on his time with Ejeagha, Spenta revealed that he played lead guitar for the veteran musician for several years. He described Ejeagha’s impact as instrumental in shaping his storytelling ability and approach to music production. Recently, Spenta received Ejeagha’s blessing to sample one of his iconic sounds, resulting in a viral track that has gained traction on digital platforms, particularly TikTok.

Release of ABCHD and Cultural Inspiration

Spenta’s latest track, ABCHD, has been well received and is available on major streaming platforms. The song is deeply rooted in Igbo culture, an aspect that Spenta is passionate about preserving through his music. He explained that ABCHD serves as a reminder to the Igbo community about their heritage and traditions, aiming to reignite cultural awareness.

In discussing the inspiration behind the song, Spenta stated, “My sound is out to remind my people of our roots. Many Igbos cannot even recite ‘Abu Chidi,’ which is an important cultural reference. This song is a wake-up call for us to reconnect with our heritage.”

With the song’s success, Spenta has confirmed that a music video is in the works, promising fans more engaging visuals and fresh content.

Role of AkwaAmaka Music and Future Plans

Spenta’s record label, AkwaAmaka Music, has played a crucial role in his development as an artist. The label, owned by his father, Ezeudo High Chief Stanley Chukwudi Obodoagwu, provides him with an environment of support and constructive critique.

Speaking on this unique relationship, Spenta expressed gratitude for having his father as both a mentor and a manager. “Having my father as my boss is a blessing. He pushes me beyond my limits and ensures I stay focused. He is not just grooming me for music but also to be a leader within the label.”

Apart from ABCHD, Spenta’s growing discography includes songs like Asun, Oga Aba, Hakuna Matata, and Baby Mo. His collaboration with Ice Prince on Your Body further showcases his ability to merge traditional and contemporary sounds.

Looking ahead, Spenta promises to keep delivering new music, emphasizing his dedication to quality and cultural representation. As he continues his rise in the afrobeat scene, his commitment to storytelling, heritage, and artistic excellence sets him apart as a musician to watch.
