Portable Praises Burna Boy for ₦20 Million Gift, But Calls Out Singer Over Lack of Collaboration

Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has shared his gratitude after receiving a generous ₦20 million from Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy. The gift came as a reward for winning his boxing match against Speed Darlington, a move that left many talking. In a heartfelt Instagram post, the ZaZoo Zehh crooner expressed his deep appreciation for the financial support, which he called a rare act of generosity.

“If someone gives you two thousand naira in Nigeria, thank the person well o. Because all some other people can give you is advice, you can lay down in front of them and they won’t give you anything,” Portable said. “I just want to thank Burna Boy, Odogwu for the 20 million he gave me. I love you. You’re now a Burna Daddy, not Burna Boy.”

He went on to emphasize how precious genuine support is, particularly in a world where many people offer advice without any tangible help. Portable praised Burna Boy for stepping up in a way that few others do, calling him a “helper” in contrast to the many “advisers” who only offer words without action.

“Pesin wey big send me big money. Some people would just talk to you and advise you without supporting you. 99 advisers and only one helper. In this country, if someone gives you as little as 1k, thank them. Allow me thank Burna Boy over and over,” he added, demonstrating his sincere gratitude for the gesture.

This display of appreciation was followed by a social media video where Portable excitedly revealed the confirmation of the ₦20 million gift from Burna Boy’s manager. In the video, he could be heard calling Burna his “helper” and expressing his joy at receiving the money.

“20 million from @burnaboygram. If you wanna be like Odogwu, can you do like Odogwu? God bless your family,” Portable wrote while sharing the video on his Instagram story.

However, shortly after the outpouring of thanks, Portable took to his social media again, expressing some dissatisfaction. He claimed that despite Burna Boy’s generous financial gift, the Afro-fusion star had been unresponsive to his attempts to reach out for a collaboration.

“Burna Boy gave me 20 million naira, but he won’t reply my DMs on Instagram, pick my calls, or even link me. I don’t even have his number. The 20M will finish — what I really need from him is a verse. Why are you so stingy with your replies?” Portable lamented.

While expressing gratitude for the ₦20 million, Portable made it clear that what he truly sought was a collaboration with the African Giant, something that he hoped would come to fruition despite the ongoing communication challenges.

This back-and-forth demonstrates the complex dynamics between celebrities in the Nigerian music industry, where acts of kindness are often met with high expectations, even if those expectations aren’t always reciprocated in the way one might hope. Nonetheless, Portable’s public gratitude and his candid remarks highlight the ever-evolving relationships among the stars of Afrobeats.
