Peter Okoye Blames Fans for P-Square’s Breakup

Afrobeat star Peter Okoye, one half of the once-iconic duo P-Square, has come out to blame fans for the group’s highly publicized split. Speaking during his appearance at the AYLIVE show, Peter accused fans of constantly comparing him to his twin brother, Paul Okoye, which he claims ignited ego battles and internal tension within the group.

P-Square, formed in 1997, became one of Africa’s biggest musical acts, thrilling fans with hits like “Bizzy Body,” “E No Easy,” and “Personally.” Their high-energy performances and infectious rhythms made them stadium-fillers across the continent. However, despite their success, the group first split in 2017 after years of internal conflicts that involved disagreements over management, finances, and creative direction.

Jude Okoye, the twins’ elder brother and former manager, was also deeply entangled in the controversy. As the owner of a major stake in their PClassic Label, Jude’s influence on group affairs often became a point of contention. The tensions eventually turned public and messy.

During the AYLIVE show, Peter did not hold back in expressing his frustration with fans’ behavior. He said, “Fans are the reason Psquare no dey together today. Two brothers dey do one thing, ona dey talk say one better pass one, e con enter one head, he begin misbehave. If ona like make ona dey go house, I no send una.”

Peter believes the relentless comparisons between him and Paul created divisions that eventually tore them apart. While fans were quick to take sides, the resulting favoritism only widened the rift.

Earlier this year, Paul Okoye reignited the controversy by blaming Peter for their brother Jude’s ongoing legal troubles. After a bail hearing for Jude, Paul told the press, “Peter is the one putting Jude through this. Peter is doing this and putting him in prison… If they say Jude is guilty of these crimes, then Peter is guilty and Paul is guilty.”

Despite past efforts to reunite and collaborate, it’s clear that the wounds from the breakup are still fresh. With both brothers now pursuing solo careers, fans may have to accept that the days of P-Square performing as one may truly be behind them.
