Olamide and Wizkid Reunite on New Single ‘Kai’ Ahead of Upcoming Self-Titled Album

After weeks of eager anticipation, Nigerian music heavyweights Olamide and Wizkid have once again joined forces on a new single titled Kai, released on April 29, 2025. The track marks a vibrant return to the infectious Konto bounce that once defined the early 2010s, delivering a nostalgic yet refreshing sound for fans of both artists.

In Kai, Olamide and Wizkid combine their star power to serenade a love interest, blending slick lyrics with flamboyant displays of affluence. The result is a smooth, confident jam that effortlessly captures their chemistry and growth over the years.

A Decade-Long Musical Brotherhood

Kai arrives 14 years after their first collaboration on the 2011 breakout hit Omo To Shan, which played a key role in cementing both artists as future icons. Since then, their careers have soared, with each carving unique paths that have shaped the sound and global appeal of Afrobeats.

This new release continues their tradition of seamless collaborations and reaffirms their place at the center of Nigerian music culture.

The First Taste of Olamide’s Self-Titled Album

More than just a standalone single, Kai also serves as the lead offering from Olamide’s forthcoming self-titled album, a 17-track project slated for release on June 3, 2025. The upcoming album represents a strategic pivot from Olamide’s earlier plans to drop Ikigai 2, the sequel to his critically acclaimed EP.

The original Ikigai, inspired by the Japanese philosophy meaning “a reason to live,” delivered fan favorites such as Metaverse, Habibi, and Uptown Disco featuring Fireboy and Asake. While fans were expecting a continuation of that introspective vibe, the announcement of a full-length album signals a broader and more ambitious creative direction.

Olamide’s Legacy Continues

The self-titled album will mark Olamide’s 11th solo project, adding another chapter to an already storied career. Known for his genre-bending innovation, street credibility, and ear for rising talent, Olamide has not only remained relevant but also helped shape the careers of some of Nigeria’s biggest artists under his YBNL label. Names like Lil Kesh, Adekunle Gold, Fireboy DML, and Asake all trace their success back to his visionary mentorship.

With Kai, Olamide sets the tone for what promises to be another landmark project. The song showcases his adaptability and Wizkid’s effortless cool, giving listeners a glimpse of the musical magic that lies ahead.

As June approaches, all eyes are on Olamide — not just as an artist, but as a cultural force who continues to push the boundaries of Nigerian music.
