10 Things You Didn’t Know About DJ Jimmy Jatt

The pioneer of Road Block Street carnival and legendary renowned Nigerian disc jockey, DJ Jimmy Jatt was born as Jimmy Adewale Amu in Lagos, Nigeria. He first ventured into the entertainment scene as a rapper by the name of Master J. He is revered for his role in setting the pace for hip pop music across the country. The versatile rapper has definitely paved a successful career for himself in the world of entertainment.

Here are 10 things you probably didn’t know about the legendary Nigerian disc jockey, DJ Jimmy Jatt:

1. DJ Jimmy Jatt was born as Jimmy Adewale Amu in Lagos, Nigeria.

2. He grew up listening to a lot of blues, soul, jazz, highlife, R&B and other indigenous genres.

3. He first ventured into the entertainment scene as a rapper by the name of Master J.

4. He later established a studio in honour of his brothers who supported him through his career and he eventually changed his stage name to DJ Jimmy Jatt. The studio is located on Odo Street.

5. He is the pioneer of the Road Block Street Carnival; it was at a point one of the accepted forum for hip hop artists to have themselves groomed in Nigeria.

6. In 1993, he started hooked up with DJ Raves in major university campuses across Nigeria, appealing to kids of the elites and hip hop disciples.

7. He has performed in a number of notable shows and events including; the LL Cool J/Akon Star Mega Jam, MTN Friendship is Beautiful Tour, 50cent Concert, MTV Base Lunch with 2Face 7 Lebo in Lagos and the Globacom Campus Storm Tour to mention a few.

8. His first single titled “Stylee” which featured 2face Idibia, Mode 9 and Elajoe was heavily successful and enjoyed airplay across the country.

9. He has worked and shared stages with prominent entertainment stars like 2face Idibia, Mode 9, Elajoe, Akon, 50cent, Wyclef Jean, Sean Paul and LL Cool J to mention a few.

10. He was later nominated at the Channel O Africa Music Video Award for Best Video of the Year category.
