BBNaija Season 9 winners, Kellyrae and his wife Kassia, have shed light on the discipline and strategy that guided them through their time in the Big Brother Naija house. The couple recently spoke on TVC’s Esplash segment, revealing how they kept their marriage a secret from fellow contestants and fans while vying for the grand prize.
A Winning Strategy Rooted in Discipline
During the 2024 BBNaija edition, which introduced a pairs-based gameplay format, the duo entered the house under the team name “Doublekay.” Unbeknownst to the other housemates, Kellyrae and Kassia were not only partners in the game but also husband and wife. Their strategy revolved around remaining discreet and focusing on the end goal. Kellyrae emphasized that discipline played a central role in their success, saying, “First of all, discipline. You have to always remind yourself where you’re coming from and know where you’re going.”
Kellyrae shared that although the secrecy was challenging, it was a calculated move. “In your head, it’s better to remind yourself that it’s just a short period of time. If we needed to be that way, even if it would have taken us a year, it would have been worth it,” he explained. He also mentioned that in the beginning, Kassia found it difficult to maintain the secret, given her naturally affectionate personality. However, as time went on, they took turns keeping each other in check, with Kassia becoming a source of encouragement towards the end.
Pursuing a Long-Held Dream
Kassia revealed that the decision to enter the BBNaija house was driven by Kellyrae’s longstanding dream to be part of the show. Having auditioned several times without success, Kellyrae had decided to abandon his pursuit until a close friend convinced them to give it one last try. Their surprise at being selected only deepened their commitment to a winning strategy.
“Going to the house was always his dream, not mine,” Kassia admitted. “So, for this season, he had made up his mind not to audition because he had tried many times. A friend of his persuaded us, and we were surprised that we got picked.”
