Burna Boy Proclaims Wealth, Now Richer Than His Idols

On October 27, 2024, Nigerian music icon and Grammy Award winner Burna Boy made a bold declaration that has captured widespread attention. In a social media post, the Afrofusion superstar shared that he now surpasses many of the figures he once admired in wealth. In a now-expired Instagram Story, Burna Boy reflected on his journey and the shift in Nigeria’s wealth landscape.

Burna Boy, known for hits like Ye and Last Last, emphasized how perseverance and self-belief can push anyone to success. “Imagine growing up and only politicians and oil men were the ones really getting REAL money followed by the G boys. Music was not even in the conversation when money was the Topic,” he stated, highlighting how, historically, musicians weren’t seen as part of Nigeria’s elite.

The artist’s journey from humble beginnings in Port Harcourt to global fame as “Odogwu” resonates with many fans. Reflecting on his success, Burna Boy continued, “Now, an ugly black musician from Port Harcourt got more money than 90% of the people he looked up to as moneymakers. This is why I never count any young people out, because they could be Elon Musk 2moro typing this same message.”

Richest Nigerian Artiste?

This announcement aligns with a recent claim by music executive Jude Okoye, who declared Burna Boy the wealthiest musician in Nigeria. In an Instagram Live session with media personality Daddy Freeze, Okoye stated that Burna Boy has amassed between $80–$100 million over the last four years. He confidently stated, “Anybody that is making any ridiculous money is Burna Boy. What I’m explaining to you is that Burna Boy made at least 80 – 100 million dollars in the last four years alone.”

For Burna Boy, this success symbolizes more than wealth; it’s a testament to breaking barriers in the Nigerian music scene and inspiring a new generation of artists.
