Mercy Aigbe Reveals Reason Behind Marrying Kazim Adeoti: Building an Empire Together
Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe-Adeoti has shed light on her decision to marry Kazim Adeoti as his second wife, emphasizing that their relationship extends beyond the personal to include shared professional ambitions. In a candid conversation on “Nollywood on Radio,” Mercy shared that her husband’s dedication and experience in the film industry were pivotal in her choice.
“That’s one of the reasons why I married him actually,” Mercy stated, explaining that their union is a partnership rooted in mutual goals. “Together we’re building an empire; we’re building a production empire, and I felt like I needed someone like that. It’s a good thing that he’s in the industry, so with his strength and my strength combined, the future of the empire is looking good already.”
Mercy’s marriage to Kazim Adeoti, a filmmaker and businessman, has been met with mixed reactions, particularly due to his existing marriage to Funso Adeoti. Many critics on social media have expressed disapproval, arguing that Mercy’s actions were inconsiderate to Kazim’s first wife. One comment read, “Elesin! Empire wey he don already build with his first wife,” while another accused the actress of betrayal, noting, “Mercy, you know that you betrayed this woman.”
Reports of Mercy’s involvement with Kazim before their marriage fueled the controversy further. Some sources, including her ex-husband Lanre Gentry, alleged that she was acquainted with Funso before the union. Kazim, however, has defended their relationship, stating that he and Mercy had been business partners and friends for over a decade before they began dating.
The actress, who officially converted to Islam after her marriage to Kazim, marked the change by adopting the name Hajia Meenah Mercy Adeoti. She made the announcement in April 2023, just before the start of Ramadan, sharing her excitement about embracing the faith with her social media followers.
Despite the backlash, Mercy Aigbe-Adeoti remains focused on her vision for the future. She and Kazim continue to work closely on joint projects, committed to building a formidable production house that leverages their combined expertise and passion for Nollywood.
