Dangote, Akande, Adebutu, Others Honored by Ibadan Chamber
The President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, and President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Onikepo Akande, were among 10 individuals honored at an award ceremony organised by the Ibadan Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) for their contributions to the growth of the Nigerian economy.
Others honoured at the occasion were Jigawa State Governor, Mohammad Badaru; Chairman, Premier Lotto Limited, Chief Kessington Adebutu; Finland Ambassador to Nigeria, Mrs. Pirjo Suomela-Chowdhury; a former Vice President, Poultry Association of Nigeria, Chief Emmanuel Ogunnaike; a businesswoman, Chief Alaba Lawson; Managing Director, Karmadex Nigeria Limited, Mr. John Boulos Karam; and Dutch engineer and entrepreneur, Mr. Cornelis Gerardus Vink.
The award was part of the investiture ceremony of Princess Margaret Amusan-Ogunnaike as the 18th President of ICCIMA.
At the ceremony, Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Olalekan Alli, lauded the past leaders of the chamber, who he said contributed to the solid foundation on which the organization was built.
“The public sector must be responsive in providing the enabling environment for private enterprises to thrive, especially in the spheres of provision of adequate security for lives and property, provision of necessary infrastructure in terms of good road networks, and provision of easy access to affordable finance,” the governor said.
In her acceptance speech, Amusan-Ogunnaike paid tributes to her predecessors in office, especially those who once worked with her.
While recognizing the downturn in the global economy, especially the dwindling oil revenue, the new ICCIMA president gave an assurance that the chamber would waste no time in maximising efforts to ensure that members benefited optimally.
