Al-Shabab attacks Kenya Garissa university

students ‘taken hostage’ by al-Shabab

Al-shabab has once again killed at least 15 people and taken hostages in a university in the North of Kenya.

There are reports that the kenyan troops are engaging the gunman

below is a summary of the events:

1. More than 500 students were still unaccounted

2.The number of hostages is unclear.

3. Reports that most hostages are Christians and muslims are being freed.

4. Hostages from the two groups had been separated, and 15 of the Muslims had already

5. reports are that about five masked gunmen are said to have stormed the university.

6. reports of one gunmen is killed

7. The university opened in 2011 and is the only place of higher education in the region.

8. Garissa is close to the somali border

9. UK and Australia issued alerts this week warning of potential terror attacks in parts of the country, including Garissa.

10. There has also been a specific alert for universities in the country.
