Davido Claps Back at Nollywood Actress Sarah Martins Over Restaurant Naming Remarks

Afrobeats superstar Davido has stirred up a wave of online reactions after directly calling out Nollywood actress Sarah Martins for her comments regarding a new restaurant campaign tied to his recently announced album 5ive.
The drama unfolded on May 26, 2025, when Martins took to Instagram to share her opinion on a virtual restaurant collaboration between Davido and the food delivery platform FoodCourt. In her post, she suggested that the venture should have been named in honour of Chioma Rowland, Davido’s wife and a well-known culinary enthusiast.
“This is coming from a place of LOVE because I am a huge fan of OBO,” Martins wrote. “I honestly feel Davido’s restaurant should have been opened for Chioma or probably in her name because we’ve always known her to be a passionate, fantastic chef.”
She added that she had long anticipated the day when Davido would announce a food business in Chioma’s name. “Again, this is not coming from a place of hate and I’m happy for them regardless of who owns the restaurant,” she concluded.
However, Davido did not appreciate the unsolicited suggestion. He swiftly responded in the comment section of Martins’ post, shutting down the speculation and clarifying the nature of the project.
“U no get sense … no restaurant was opened,” Davido wrote. “That was a promotional campaign with @foodcourt_app for my album 5️⃣… now take my wife’s picture off page.”
His sharp retort quickly went viral, drawing a flood of reactions online. Many fans applauded Davido for defending Chioma and for setting the record straight about the nature of the campaign. Others questioned the timing and tone of Martins’ comments, labeling them as unwarranted interference in a personal and professional matter.
The virtual restaurant campaign is part of a larger promotional rollout for Davido’s highly anticipated album 5ive, which has already generated excitement through pre-release events in France and across social media.
Despite the online back-and-forth, neither Martins nor Davido has made further statements since the exchange. Meanwhile, fans continue to rally behind the singer, praising his loyalty to Chioma and his focus on celebrating her away from public pressure or unsolicited narratives.
As the album launch draws near, all eyes remain on Davido—not just for his music, but for how he continues to balance fame, family, and fan expectations in an ever-watchful digital age.
