Headies Academy Reschedules 17th Edition, Citing “Unforeseen Circumstances”

In a new development, the Headies Academy has announced a change in the date for the highly anticipated 17th edition of the award ceremony. Initially scheduled for April 5, 2025, the event will now take place on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

The announcement was made via the Headies’ official social media pages on March 22, with the Academy citing “unforeseen circumstances” as the reason for the rescheduling. According to the statement, the decision was made to ensure a well-executed and memorable ceremony for all stakeholders.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we regret to announce that the 17th Headies has been rescheduled from April 5th to Sunday, April 27th, 2025.

We understand that many of you may have already made arrangements for the original date, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please know that our commitment to delivering an exceptional experience at The Headies remains unwavering.

We are excited to bring you an unforgettable evening of music, glamour, and excitement on April 27th. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,” the statement read.

This edition of the Headies will mark a significant return to Nigeria after the last two editions were held in the United States. Fans and industry insiders have expressed excitement over the move, hoping it will rekindle the award’s local significance.

The 17th Headies nominations were earlier revealed, with top artists such as Rema, OdumoduBlvck, Tems, and Ayra Starr leading the list. However, the nominations have sparked mixed reactions, with some fans and critics pointing out notable omissions and instances where the Academy appeared to flout its own eligibility guidelines.

Amidst the controversies, Headies Executive Producer Ayo Animashaun recently lamented the dwindling support for the awards, acknowledging that the Grammys had gained more traction in Nigeria. The upcoming edition presents an opportunity for the Headies to reaffirm its status as Nigeria’s most prestigious music award and restore public confidence in the process.

With the new date set, anticipation remains high for a night of celebration, entertainment, and recognition of the best talents in the Nigerian music industry.
