Iyabo Ojo Regrets Advocacy for Mohbad’s Body Exhumation
Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has expressed regret over her call for the exhumation of late Nigerian singer Mohbad’s body during the investigation into his mysterious death. Speaking on the Talk to B Podcast, Iyabo opened up about her initial intentions behind the request, stating that she was driven by a desire for justice and clarity regarding the circumstances surrounding the singer’s sudden demise.
At the time, the actress was unaware that the case would drag on for months without significant progress. She clarified, “I wouldn’t have requested that Mohbad be exhumed if I knew his case would turn out this way. I just wanted Mohbad’s body exhumed so they could do the autopsy to find out the cause of his death. I did my best to ensure that everyone was investigated, but when they came up with different theories, DNA became more important to them.”
Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, died on September 12, 2023, shocking both Nigerians and the global community. His sudden passing left many confused and raised questions about the circumstances surrounding it. One of the most notable concerns was his hurried burial, which took place less than two days after his death. The small casket and quick burial fueled suspicions, prompting a nationwide outcry for an investigation.
Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, later explained that the quick burial was due to his son’s youth and the fact that the land on which he was buried was the only property Mohbad had known.
The investigation into Mohbad’s death led to the exhumation of his body, and it was revealed that a quack nurse named Feyisayo Ogedengbe had administered injections to the singer. The injections, consisting of tetanus toxoid, paracetamol, and an antibiotic called Cetrazone, triggered a severe reaction, including vomiting, goosebumps, and convulsions. Unfortunately, Mohbad passed shortly after and was rushed to Perez Medcare Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The hospital later issued a statement clarifying that he did not die at their facility and that all efforts to resuscitate him had failed.
While the investigation into Mohbad’s death continues, his exhumation and the ensuing revelations have sparked further public outcry. Many, including celebrities like Iyabo Ojo, have voiced their frustration and concern over the slow pace of justice. Nearly two years after Mohbad’s death, his body has not been re-buried, and the case remains unresolved.
Iyabo Ojo’s expression of regret highlights the complexities involved in high-profile cases, where well-meaning efforts may not always lead to the desired outcomes. Nonetheless, the call for justice for Mohbad continues to echo, with the hope that the truth will eventually come to light.
