Jide Kosoko Clarifies His Experience with Polygamy
Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko recently opened up about his experiences with polygamy, addressing misconceptions surrounding his marital life. In an interview on The Honest Bunch Podcast, the seasoned actor clarified that he has never had four wives simultaneously, as some people had assumed.
Kosoko explained, “I didn’t have four wives at the same time o, don’t get it wrong because people are getting it wrong. I had two, but then I lost them. Then I married another two.” He further emphasized that he is not a proponent of polygamy, highlighting that everyone’s experience is different and that it is not a practice he advocates.
In discussing the realities of polygamous households, Kosoko shared insights on the financial strains that can arise. He cited his own experiences with celebrating his children’s birthdays as an example. “Do you know that in some polygamous houses where you have mothers with different children and one of the children has a birthday, we did it elaborately, but by the next child’s birthday, I wasn’t buoyant enough so we did nothing?” he said. “My children and their mothers understand that about me, if your birthday comes and I have money I’d do it, if I don’t, that’s your fate.”
He acknowledged the unpredictable nature of finances in a polygamous home, noting that luck plays a significant role in how things unfold. Kosoko also emphasized the importance of expressing love in various ways beyond material gifts. “You have to show that you love them all by way of other things,” he advised, “That way, when the love doesn’t come through material things, they’d easily understand that you’re broke.”
