DAESH or ISIS: Throwing tantrums; terrorist or toddlerist

We all hate it when kids throw tantrums. The shout, screams, falls, kicks and bites. Some people have learnt to cope with that but others have not.

toddlerist

I remember visiting a friend who had 3 kids aged between1-4, his kids could literally take the house hostage and create chaos thereby destabilising the established order.

Whenever children are in the middle of a tantrum, it can become hard for parents to not melt down. But when children do that, we understand. That’s why we laugh and try to teach them.

What would you do when it is adults who are throwing tantrums?

We have all heard of the Islamic State, some people call it ISIS others call it ISIL but there is a name they hate “DAESH”. This is derived from the Arabic “al“al-Dawla al-Islamiya fi Iraq wa al-Sham.” Their aim is to establish an Islamic state or Caliphate over the entire world.

So why do they hate the name DAESH?

Because it is similar to the Islamic name Daes, which means “one who crushes something underfoot. It also sounds similar to Dahes, or “one who sows discord.”

They hate the name so much so they vow to cut out the tongue of whoever calls them that.

This is like a child insisting to be given sweets or bubble gum, and when that is refused the child throws up a tantrum which will challenge the parents.

So how does the world react to them?

The Australian PM was quoted saying “Daesh hates being referred to by this term, and what they don’t like has an instinctive appeal to me”

Let us assume that the world is run by adults and that DAESH are children. Can we say that the Australian PM’s response was what the world needed?

When kids throw tantrums, they need a firm hand strong hand to guide. But DAESH are not children, this is a bunch of adults committing atrocities in the name of God.

I think the best way to deal with them is to handle it like Africans handle naughty children. “We beat them” said Trevor Noah
