Timaya Opens Up About Marriage and Fatherhood
Nigerian singer Timaya has recently shared his thoughts on marriage and fatherhood, shedding light on his personal reasons for not tying the knot. In a candid interview on NAIJA FM, the “Dem Mama” singer revealed his hesitations about marriage, stressing how much more challenging it is to leave a marriage compared to a relationship.
Timaya, known for his hits and unapologetic views, confessed that he has never been a fan of the idea of marriage. “I’ve never been a marriage guy right from time but it can change, because marriage dey crase?” he said, alluding to the complexities that come with the institution. “I just look at it like if I marry today, would I be able to get out? In all my previous relationships, I was the one who got out because I don’t like stress.”
He explained that his reluctance to marry stems from a desire to avoid the complications that often follow the commitment. Timaya emphasized his preference for peace of mind, saying, “I don’t like anything to bother me at all,” and that he prefers to address issues head-on. “If you have a problem with me, let’s talk about it because I don’t like going to bed thinking about things.”
The father of four also spoke about his approach to fatherhood, describing it as both enjoyable and stressful. He highlighted his deep love for his children, saying, “Being a father is stressful because I love them too much but it’s enjoyable.” Though his kids live with their mothers, Timaya maintains a strong connection with them. He explained that when he wants to see them, they spend quality time together for two to three months before returning to their mothers. The singer shared that during the upcoming Christmas season, his children will be with him, but their mothers, who are in relationships, will not be joining them.
Timaya expressed that he and the mothers of his children have a respectful and harmonious relationship, acknowledging that they are now like family. “We’re all family now, so I can’t date any of them, we’re family now and we respect each other,” he concluded.
Timaya’s revelations about marriage and fatherhood offer a glimpse into his personal life, highlighting his desire for stability and meaningful connections without the pressures of traditional commitments.
