Have you ever found yourself wishing your hair was longer? Have you resigned to the fact that your hair will take decades to grow to the length you want it to? Well good news is it can happen a lot, lot sooner.
Each strand of hair grows in 3 stages, namely, anagen, catagen and telogen. Anagen is the growth stage and ideallyis two to six years long. The next one, which is catagen is when hair follicles are renewed. And finally, the third stage telogen is when hair growth is stopped.
Here are some tips that would get you the hair length you have been wishing for.
1. Remember that it can’t grow overnight.
Unless your scalp unleashes new strands like a Chia Pet, gaining new length is going to take time. “Hair typically only grows about a quarter of an inch — to a half an inch max — a month,” says celebrity hair stylist Mark Townsend, who helped Ashley Olsen grow out her asymmetric bob to past her waist. “And that’s only if it is super-healthy and doesn’t have a ton of split ends.” The bottom line: practice patience.
2. Eat Right.
One of the first steps you can take if you’re wondering how to increase hair growth is to have a diet that stimulates it. Eat plenty of leafy vegetables, seeds, beans, chicken and lean fish.
3. Ironically, a scissor is your friend.
Although getting regular trims to snip splits won’t make your hair actually grow faster, it will keep tips looking healthy and prevent splits from working their way up strands, requiring you to chop hair off more often. Ask your stylist to take around just an eighth of an inch off every 10 to 12 weeks to prevent extreme split ends before they start.
4. A good trim.
Give your hair a good trim often. This helps get rid of split ends and also stimulates hair growth.
