Wizkid, Rema, Asake, and Tems Nominated for Favourite Afrobeats Artist at the 2025 American Music Awards

The Nigerian music scene continues to make waves globally as four of its brightest stars—Wizkid, Rema, Asake, and Tems—have been nominated for the Favourite Afrobeats Artist category at the 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs). This prestigious recognition highlights the growing global influence of Afrobeats and marks another major milestone for Nigerian artists.
After an eventful 2024, all four artists are riding high on their achievements. Rema, following the success of his Grammy-nominated sophomore album HEIS, and Tems, who also received Grammy recognition for her debut album Born In The Wild, are both competing for the AMA in this category. Asake, who released his third album Lungu Boy in 2024, and Wizkid, with his sixth LP Morayo, also earned well-deserved nods.
A standout moment for these artists was their collaboration on the hit track MMS, which earned them Grammy nominations for Best African Song Performance. This success has further propelled them into the global spotlight, contributing to their nominations at the 2025 AMAs.
The Nigerian contingent will face competition from South African sensation Tyla, who has been making waves with her own brand of Afrobeats-influenced music.
The 2025 American Music Awards will return on May 25 after a two-year hiatus, with fan voting now open on VoteAMAs.com and through the @AMAs Instagram profile. Voting closes on May 15, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. PT, with the exception of categories like Collaboration of the Year and Social Song of the Year, which will remain open until the first 30 minutes of the live broadcast.
Hosted by Jennifer Lopez, the 51st installment of the AMAs promises to be a star-studded event. As the world continues to embrace the infectious rhythms of Afrobeats, this nomination is a testament to the genre’s global reach and the influence of Nigerian artists on the international music scene. Fans around the world will be eagerly watching to see who will take home the coveted Favourite Afrobeats Artist trophy.
