Zambia traffic police officers suffer from depression once they are transferred from their lucrative postings
Lusaka- Working as a traffic officer in Zambia is a very lucrative job. This gives the officers the opportunity to make more money from motorists.
The police officers are ordered by their superiors not to confiscate the Drivers licences from motorists but this has been ignored. The reason given by some officers is that they don’t take orders from the minister.
Unfortunately, the officers could be right, the minister can’t be giving direct orders to police officers, and it should flow from the chain of command, but the point still remains, why is this beautiful country allowed to fall by the “way side” by its people.
The Zambian traffic police is said to be one of the most corrupt department within the government, a large number of police officers would like to work in that department as it affords them the opportunity to “start” their own business.
In fact there are rumours that some traffic officers have built posh houses and are driving expensive cars, safe to say that, corruption pays, unless countries devise fair ways to handle their population, these issues will not be taken away or disappear.
