Effective Strategies to Becoming A Good Student
Becoming an outstanding student does not happen overnight. It is also not the sole responsibility of the teacher. The teacher is only the facilitator of knowledge. The student must come prepared to take in that knowledge, make connections, and be able to apply it to real life situations. This is more natural for some students than it is for others, but everyone can improve and become a better student if they desire to do so.
Recognizing the need to improve your standing as a student is the first step in actually earning better grades and absorbing more of the information taught in your courses. With small lifestyle changes, organization and dedication, you can become the student that you want to be.
Here are some effective strategies that will help you become an outstanding student:
1. Come to class and pay attention.
This is extremely important. If you must miss class, get the notes as soon as possible from your colleagues – those that you are sure of, who know what they are doing in school. And when you’re in class, be visibly attentive; let your professor/lecturer know you’re in the room.
2. Take care of your body.
It is essential that you take care of your body so you are physically able to keep up with your school work. Avoid the temptation to stay up late socializing instead of giving yourself an early bedtime so you are rested. Power your studies with nutritious meals and snacks. Exercise to improve your health. Reduce stress and focus your mind. Blow off steam in a positive way with relaxation techniques, deep breathing and sharing frustrations with good friends.
3. Balance Your Life.
It is imperative that all aspects of your life are well settled so that none adversely affects the other. If you have a job, Learn to balance your studies and your job. Your job is not an end in itself but a means for you to go to university. To confuse those priorities is to defeat the very purpose of being here.
